Broken link checker

Read the links on a page and find the ones that lead nowhere. A bounded sample of up to 25, spread across the page, with the status code each one answered.

One page, not a crawl. We read the links on the page you give us and request up to 25 of them, spread across the page rather than the first 25. That is a sample: a clean result here does not mean every link on the site works.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS TOOL

Why only 25 links?
Because this is free and unauthenticated. A cap keeps one visitor from pointing us at a page with thousands of links and turning a free tool into a load generator against someone else's server. The 25 are spread across the page rather than taken from the top, so the navigation does not use up the whole sample.
Does a clean result mean my site has no broken links?
No. This checks one page, and up to 25 links on it. It is a sample and the results say so. A site-wide answer needs a crawl of every page, which is what the site audit in the product does.
Why does a link show 403 when it works in my browser?
Some sites block anything that is not a browser. We identify ourselves as SEOBuilderBot and retry with a GET when a HEAD is refused, but a site behind a strict bot filter can still refuse us. Open the link yourself before you delete it.
What does 'no reply' mean?
The request never completed: the hostname did not resolve, the connection was refused, or the server took longer than ten seconds. To a visitor that looks the same as a dead link.
Do you check mailto: and tel: links?
No. They are not requests a crawler makes, so they are counted and skipped. Anchors that only point at a fragment on the same page are skipped too.

A TOOL CHECKS ONCE. SEOBUILDER KEEPS WATCH.

We can watch this for you.

Links rot quietly: a partner site reorganises, an old post gets deleted, and nothing tells you. We crawl your whole site on a schedule and report every dead link, not a sample of one page.
