The format, in full
llms.txt is markdown with four parts. An H1 naming the site, a blockquote summarising it, H2 sections, and lists of links with an optional description after a colon.

Save the result as llms.txt at the root of your domain. It is a plain file, so it needs no build step and no plugin.
QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS TOOL
- What is llms.txt?
- A markdown file at the root of your site, at /llms.txt, that lists the pages worth reading and says in one line what each covers. It gives a language model a curated map of your site instead of leaving it to infer one from your navigation and internal links.
- What does a valid llms.txt look like?
- An H1 with the site name, then a blockquote with a one sentence summary, then H2 sections each holding a list of markdown links with an optional description after a colon. That is the whole format. It is plain markdown, so nothing beyond a text editor is needed to maintain it.
- Where do I put the file?
- At the root of your domain, so it resolves at yoursite.com/llms.txt and is served as plain text or markdown. In most frameworks that means dropping it in the public or static directory.
- Where do the descriptions come from?
- From your own pages. We read your sitemap, take up to 15 pages, and request each one to read its title and meta description. Nothing is written by an AI model and nothing is invented. Pages with no meta description get a link with no description, which is valid.
- Why are only some of my pages listed?
- The file is a curated map, not a second sitemap. We list up to 15 pages across up to 5 sections, grouped by the first part of their URL path and ranked by what your homepage links to, so the result stays short enough to be read in full. Pages that share a title with one already listed are dropped. Edit the text box to add, remove or reword anything before you publish it.
- Does llms.txt affect my Google rankings?
- No. It is a convention for language models, not a signal Google has said it uses, and no model is obliged to read it. Treat it as cheap insurance on a standard that is still forming, not as a ranking tactic.
