Title and meta description preview

See the page the way a searcher does, before you ship it. Reads what your page serves now, then follows your edits live.

Edit anything below and the previews follow. Nothing is saved, and nothing is written to your site.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS TOOL

How long should a title tag be?
Aim for 30 to 60 characters. Google truncates by pixel width rather than character count, so a title full of wide capitals can be cut shorter than that, and a narrow one can survive longer. Put the words that matter first and the length question mostly answers itself.
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for 120 to 160 characters. Google rewrites the description for most queries anyway, so treat it as the version you get when your wording fits the query better than anything Google would assemble.
Does the meta description affect ranking?
Not directly. Google has said it is not a ranking factor. It affects whether someone clicks the result you already have, which is why it is worth writing.
Why does my shared link show the wrong picture?
Social networks cache what they saw the first time. Fix og:image, then use the network's own debugger to make it refetch. This tool reads what the page serves right now, which is the first thing to check.
Do my edits change my site?
No. Everything you type here stays in your browser. Copy the values into your own page's head, or into your CMS, to make them real.
